Charge it is here!

Hello everyone!

I’m excited to share the first devlog for my new game, Charge It. This is my second project, and it’s been an incredible learning experience from start to finish. Let’s dive into what this game is all about!

What is Charge It?

Charge It is a 2D pixel art game where you play as a robot whose battery is constantly draining. To stay powered, you need to collect falling batteries, with each one restoring 10% of your total charge. But beware—if your battery hits 0%, it’s game over!

The challenge increases as you play, with difficulty levels ramping up over time. The ultimate test is the Impossible Mode—and trust me, the name is not an exaggeration (well, almost).

Development Journey

The idea for Charge It came from a minigame in Pou that I enjoyed, but I wanted to make something unique. Instead of playing as a… whatever Pou is (seriously, what is it?), you control a robot that constantly fights against time and battery depletion.

From there, the development began:

I started with a basic robot prototype and experimented with some, let’s say, chaotic code.

Added features like a high score system, which saves your progress (after some struggles, of course).

Designed a simple settings menu and a tutorial to help new players get started.

Building Charge It was no easy feat! Despite it being my second game, the organization of this project was very different from my first. I had to tackle plenty of unexpected bugs that seemed to appear out of nowhere, but with a lot of patience (and maybe a few moments of frustration), I got things running smoothly—well, almost. 😅

I also added some fun easter eggs, like one that appears when you click on the logo. It’s not inspired by any other game, I promise!

Browser Version vs. PC/Mac Versions

The game is available for download on itch.io, with native versions for both PC and Mac, ensuring the best experience. There is also a browser version available, but please note that it comes with a few compromises:

You won’t be able to save your high score.

The overall performance may not be as smooth as on desktop versions.

If you’re looking for the best gameplay experience, I highly recommend playing on PC or Mac.

What’s Next?

I’m already working on some updates to Charge It, with plans to fix any lingering bugs, balance the difficulty, and maybe even add new features down the line.

If you have any suggestions or ideas for the game, feel free to leave them in the comments—I’d love to hear what you think!

Thanks for checking out Charge It, and stay tuned for more updates soon!
